The strong dance rhythms and exciting wild melodies of Spanish music were developed in France as young composers were attracted to the Paris Conservatoire.
This Spanish-French programme includes the gypsy cadenzas of Turina's Espagnole, the short reflections of De Falla's Suite Populaire, the dazzling Sarasate Op 23, Rodrigo's dramatic violin work Cappricio, and from Argentina, Piazzolla's gutsy, earthy Milonga en Re.
Cathy Irons is a first violinist with the Christchurch
Symphony Orchestra, and Mary Ayre teaches piano and performs in Nelson.
